Quartet-man; like David, you are clearly very well educated in SGM! I enjoyed you analysis and look forward to future assessments as I am trying to learn all I can about the intricate workings of the gospel music industry. Thank you for your insight!

Thanks, Mary. I do however suspect that Guy had a hand in helping pick songs out later in his career with the GVB at the very least. You can see his influence style-wise when they started doing more country type things. He also helped with production and such, so I am sure he had some contribution there, but I also suspect the final word was by Bill. :-) Bill was however, good at picking out songs that fit each new member's strengths and good at letting them shine. He let English do the soul stuff, Penrod the country stuff, Lowry do his humor etc. However, he didn't always give them free reign. I think to a big degree, he knew just now much rope to give them. :-) I say this because he or Phelps talked about Phelps a cappella arrangements and how occasionally Bill would say what Phelps came up with was too exotic and they would back it off a little. Also, Bill has admitted that there are certain songs he would have the guys do that he knew they might not like so much, but that they still did them even though hew knew they would rather do others. but then he also let them do their thing some too.

ITF,
It is a different song.

But hey, I have heard that Lawry, Hartman, Volz and Weaver may be teaming up to do a Petra reunion tour. Wouldn't that be great?

I take it "More Power to Ya" is a different song than the early Petra classic?

Mary, with all due respect, I don't know how you know what songs Guy chooses, when I suspect that most of the ones you have heard him sing with the Gaithers weren't chosen by him. Since he has never been on his own until now, likely you have heard him do songs chosen by others.
