Brain N - all of Brian Free's solo dates are NOT love offering. Maybe all of their church solo dates are, I can't say on that but if they book a concert with a promoter that is NOT the case.

With the amount of offering that people put in a love offering most artists would be off the road in a matter of months if they went on love offerings.

Bill Bailey does a combination of ticket and love offering and it seems to work well for him. He advertises it as such so there are no surprises. They do ask for a ticket donation of $10 at the door HOWEVER if someone does not have that much, they would still be admitted, no one is turned away.

About half way through his program, he does take up a love offering after telling how many folks are in attendance and what the concert overhead is. Those that can afford to pay more than $10 may give then but those that can't no one is going to say anything. When the offering is taken up, you know exactly how much the door is short of making the budget.

Ex. Last week there were about 900 in attendance and his operationing budget for artists, venue and advertizing was about $12,500. So he was $3500 short.

When the offering was taken you knew exactly what was needed. That was only about $4 more per person, I know I gave more than that because I could. I'm sure there were those that couldn't but those of us that can do what we can then the need is met.

David,
Glad to see you brought the discussion here. I like to see and consider all the comments people are making. This may even help groups to consider what the attendees think about prices to concerts. I go to a lot of concerts at Churches on Sunday evening for a love offering and have talked with many of the pastors/music directors that have the groups in and don't think I have found a one that has a major group in that doesn't have to pay a flat. Recently attended one at a Church that used to have several a year, I asked why they weren't having as many and their reply was "we have a great choir and several members of our Church that are great singers, why should we pay a group go come in and sing when we have such great talent here that we can use".

Ticketed events: Frank Arnold shows @ 22.50 per night for balcony seats as I recall. Between the two nights: Perrys, Dove Brothers, Hoppers, McKameys, Gold City, Aaron Wilburn; Jeff & Sheri Easter, Triumphant Quartet, Guy Penrod. I sat next to a lady on Friday night who said she couldn't afford to come both nights. In retrospect I wish I had bought her a ticket for Saturday night.

Jason Crabb X 3 , $25 artist circle, $25 artist circle, and most recently $15 general admission waaaaaaaaaaay in the back.

I actually find myself "paying" more when it's a love offering only ($30 or so per person that I bring with me). I've been to separate concerts in churches over the last three months by The Greenes, Jeff & Sheri Easter, Jason Crabb, and The Perrys. I feel like I need to help compensate for the people who are less able to give.

Then they probably were not the only performer on the bill. But their solo concerts are done for love offerings.

I find it interesting that in these difficult times groups would be charging that much more than last year. That seems like they may be cutting their own business, I guess that remains to be seen...

Concerts at my church are always advertised as "love offering" so anyone can attend. But the agreement with the group is "love offering with a guaranteed minimum of $x". And like Bryan said, usually the offering doesn't come close to covering the expenses, so the church makes up the difference. In the rare event that the offering is larger, the group gets it all, just to keep the advertising honest. We promote SG because we love the music and the message.

Hoppers with Greater Love, $20, Also Booth Brothers $20. We have had several groups at our church with Love Offering and it doesn't come close to covering the expenses. We are looking at ticketed events in the future

Brian,
I can assure you they don't do that always, because I have been to more than one concert where Brian Free & Assurance were performing and I had to buy a ticket to get in.
