Sounds like you work for Family Christian Stores. They have no rhyme or reason when it comes to assigning codes for products.

The last five years or so of my experience in Christian retail was in working for FCS after they bought out the independently owned store where I worked. It was probably the most frustrating five years of my life...watching a company that really ought to know better...run customers off.

I also worked in Christian retail (and still do part time), as a music manager. Our classification, however, was dictated by our corporate office, and everything was computerized. I knew where most of the artists were, but if a book specialist needed to find the latest Donnie McClurken CD, they would go to the computer and find its classification (which, for some reason only God and the HO knows, was classified under "pop" instead of "urban" or "gospel," two departments we definitely had).

The problem lies in where people LOOK for that music. Most people looking for McClurken looked in the Urban section, and when they didn't find it, they walked away, not bothering to ask. They wouldn't go look in Contemporary/Pop.

Same things goes for people looking for Mark Lowry's latest CD, which is also filed under Contemporary/Pop....
