Downloadable Bibles Are Scarce
Bible publishers appear to be even more behind the times than Southern Gospel. I just checked for MP3 bibles on Amazon and a few other sites that sell downloads. I found the King James Version from an unknown publisher, but very little else.
I finally ordered a CD of the New Testament in the God’s Word translation direct from Baker. The CD has the audio already in MP3 format, so I should be able to easily move it to my portable iRiver and Zune. It was very affordable, too. I paid less than $11 including shipping. Click HERE if you’re curious.
I’ve found a couple of similar products made by Thomas Nelson…a NKJV New Testament and a couple of dramatized New Testaments…but none that could be purchased and downloaded immediately. A bit of irony at the Thomas Nelson website is their emphasis on their “green policy.”
I also checked at a site that specializes in audio book downloads (www.simplyaudiobooks.com), but again came up short. You can buy the Gospel of John as an individual download, or you can get Revelations and Daniel together, or you can download a book that features select scripture readings. These are available in WMA format. That’s it.
UPDATE: I found a TNIV New Testament HERE. If you go down to the player and click there to buy the whole bible, you’ll pay over $1000! WHAT??? Fortunately, there’s another link to buy the same thing for $34.99. In the player, individual books are listed as $34.99 each, but are sold elsewhere on the site for $3.99. They make an Old Testament in the same series, but I don’t see it listed as a download. I wonder why they’d offer one but not the other??
