CD Review: Mark Lowry-Life Gets Loud…

RATING: 4 1/2 Stars

Producer: Michael Sykes
Label: Gaither Music Group
Website: www.marklowry.com

Song Titles: “I Thank My Savior For It All,” “Over My Head,” “Keep Walking,” “Take It Up With Jesus,” “Nothing To Prove,” “The Inviting Christ,” “I Wanna Go There,” “When The Sun Comes Out Again,” “You Reap What You Sow,” and “Life Gets Loud”

Mark Lowry’s latest solo CD is in the same vein as But Seriously and Be The Miracle. A few tracks on Life Gets Loud are earthy and country based. “Life Gets Loud” makes me think of Eddie Rabbitt’s hit, “Drivin’ My Life Away,” with pounding bass guitar and rapid fire lyrics. “Keep Walking” and “I Wanna Go There” are slightly less aggressive, but still very much in a Country pop/rock mode. “I Thank My Savior For It All” is pure Southern Gospel quartet style with members of Lordsong, producer Michael Sykes, and Chip Davis adding their vocals to Lowry’s.

More meditative cuts include “Over My Head,” “Take It Up With Jesus,” “Nothing To Prove,” and “When The Sun Comes Out Again.” “The Inviting Christ” stands out among the slower cuts. This track and “You Reap What You Sow” were written by Kyle Matthews who also wrote “We Fall Down” for But Seriously.

Lowry’s solo recordings have consistently been rewarding. I hope he continues to find time to record his own music now that he has rejoined the Gaither Vocal Band.
