Chris Cooper, we hardly knew ye….

According to several sources, Chris Cooper is no longer a member of Gold City. A new tenor will reportedly be named within the next week. Of particular note is the removal of GC’s announcement of Chris as tenor from this past summer on their official website.

More information as it becomes available….

UPDATE: Danny Riley has confirmed Chris’ departure here.

To be honest, I’m not overly suprised. He seemed a bit hit and miss. I guess we’ll see…

I hope the end of the encore on this video is not an indication of the norm for Chris. I have not heard him in person. I know every one has a bad night. But if this was the norm…

Hmmmm, Matt you sound like somebody that tried out for Gold City and couldn’t make it and now you’re mad at them. Sorry. from the first video I saw of Chris, I said to myself, I don’t think this can last long, he is off pitch to often and he seems to be straining on these songs. Aaron had personal issues that took him out of Southern Gospel music that he needs to deal with before he should be welcome back into full time Gospel singing. Hey, Gold City has standards that must be met on and off the stage and some singers just don’t meet those standards for one reason or another, that is Southern Gospel Quartet life. It is tough getting quality singers and people to go on the road for less than they could make working a decent job at home.

If you’ll remember, Gold City went through several personnel changes before it stabilized in 1986, then again from 1993-1995 until it again stabilized. Between 1982 and 1986, they saw three of each part pass through the group, several of them not even fulfilling a year.

Sound familiar?

I agree John. I thought for the longest time that Chris was really pitchy and not a strong enough tenor for GC. I think Chris, while he may be good for another Qt., he didn’t have what GC needs, consistency and power in the top end of the register. Tim has always demanded quality and consistency and I just don’t think Chris had it! That being said, I wouldn’t wish any ill to the guy..
