When did Danny Funderburk leave?

I was always under the impression that Danny Funderburk left the Cathedrals at the end of 1989, and Kurt Young took over (for a short while) starting in 1990, but this home video seems to prove that theory false, if the date is correct. Poster dazzle381 dates this performance of “This Old House” as January 26th, 1990, which means that Danny at least stayed through January.

On a side note, I had not heard the “Danny jokes” that George tells at the end of the song before. They are worth watching the clip all the way through.

It might be interesting to cross reference the date and location with Singing News (if listed.) I don’t know that I have any from that period as I was hit and miss back then.

On SGHistory, we had Funderburk listed as leaving in 1990. We originally had it 1989, but editor Philip McCaulley made the correction. Looks like this validates his update.

It seems like I remember seeing it as 1990 somewhere else, but I am not sure. Man, it appears from a comment left there that Kurt was barely there at all. I remember seeing it in Singing News (about his joining), so it must be that they just barely talked with him or announced his joining when he was gone. (by the time the lag for getting it to press is taken into account.

Danny left the Cathedrals around Valentine’s Day on 1990. I saw one of Kurt Young’s first performances with them at Prestonwood in Dallas in mid February 1990.
