Blackwood Brothers – 75 Years: The Song Will Go On

3 1/2 Stars

75 Years: The Song Will Go On acknowledges the history of the Blackwood Brothers by revisiting several of their classic songs. This includes four fully realized titles plus a six-minute medley that covers six familiar titles like “Give The World A Smile” and “Learning To Lean.” The second half of the CD looks to the future with five new songs. The biggest misstep is the title track, which is pitched too high and sounds out of place stylistically. With the exception of the title track, the new songs maintain a classic quality. As a whole, the CD generates a 1950s-era nostalgia. It feels a little forced at the end, though, with an a cappella reprise of “Every Day Will Be Sunday, By And By” that could have stood more rehearsal before recording.
