Wherever You Are: The Martins (Spring Hill)

By David Murray

"Inspirational," "southern gospel," "pop," "contemporary," and "country" are all labels that could be applied to the the music of the Martins. Wherever You Are is their latest project produced by the successful team of Michael Sykes and Michael English. Joyce Martin McCullough, the oldest Martin and emcee for the group, wrote or co-wrote five of the songs. The highlights of this album include a cover of "There's Not A Crown" (formerly recorded by English on his Hope album); "Grace," a beautiful new tune that incorporates the chorus from the traditional hymn, "Grace Greater Than Our Sin;" and an upbeat re-telling of the "Woman at the Well" story from the Bible called "Well Water." Wherever You Are is ear-catching and continues the tradition of quality arrangements with tight family harmonies that we've come to expect from the Martins.
