The Best of Mark Lowry And Bill Gaither
Mark Lowry And Bill Gaither

Format: DVD
Label: Gaither Music Group
Producer: Bill Gaither
Websites: www.marklowry.com  and www.gaithernet.com

The Best Of Mark Lowry and Bill Gaither consists of two DVDs containing over 20 routines and songs each. These video clips have been drawn from previously released Gaither Homecoming titles and the Mark Lowry On Broadway video. Depending on the retail outlet of your choice, online or otherwise, you may buy these DVDs seperately or as part of a package that also includes two audio CDs called The Best Of Mark Lowry . Read my review of the CDs (with its similar introductory paragraph) here!

We are treated to Lowry wearing a Jake Hess wig for "I'm Gonna Keep On." "Jesus On The Mainline" is also included, where he attempts to distract Gaither whose eyes are closed. There's a few commercials for Down By The Tabernacle and Hawaiian Homecoming.  Lowry does his Johnny Mathis impersonation on "The Christmas Song" and of course, there's plenty of him picking on Bill Gaither. Each DVD runs for 90 minutes with an additional 20 minutes or so of "Bonus Material." Bonus tracks include a Piper the Hyper Mouse story, a clip of Lowry singing a Gaither song on TV when he was a child, the song "Had It Not Been," as well as other tunes with the GVB featuring Lowry on vocals.

Each video clip on The Best of Mark Lowry and Bill Gaither is preceded by Lowry and Gaither discussing the upcoming segment. They also cover much of their 13 year history together in the Gaither Vocal Band between clips. I had mentioned that comedy is somewhat lacking on The Best of Mark Lowry CDs. They've made up for it here. Aside from the closing song on each DVD ("Make It Real" and "Mary Did You Know") and the bonus materials, these videos are pure comedy.

If you're like Ruth Bell Graham, who is quoted on one of the videos as saying she skips forward to the comedy bits when she watches a Gaither video, these DVDs are a must buy. A ton of classic Lowry/Gaither comedy footage has been packed into The Best Of Mark Lowry and Bill Gaither . They could have created more variety by mixing some serious songs in with the comedy, but I think the vast majority of Lowry/Gaither fans will enjoy these DVDs just the way they are.
