The Happy Goodmans trademarked their deliberate style of vocal delivery years ago, and Joy For The Journey continues the tradition. The heavy backbeat of the snare drum on most of these arrangements only compliments their style. Howard and Vestal Goodman are again joined by Johnny Minick on vocals to complete their familiar sound. Not content to simply redo 10 previous hits, the Goodmans chose six new songs this time out, featuring the writing talents of Janet Paschal, Ronny Hinson, Aaron Wilburn, and others. Producer Rick Goodman created a driving new arrangement of the Goodman classic "What A Happy Time," while Ponder, Sykes and Wright lended their smooth harmonies as background for Vestal on "Unharvested Field." Since most of the songs are up tempo, the total clock time of the recording is a bit short (30 minutes). In spite of the new tunes, the musical style and lyrical sentiments of the Goodmans remain unchanged.
