Ragamuffin Band man Mark Robertson fronts This Train, a whimsical rock group with only the briefest flourishes of seriousness. The group should credit Weird Al, Isaac Air Freight and Ray Stevens as influences. Mimes Of The Old West is their major label debut. They also have one indie release (You're Soaking In It) in their discography.

The artwork for Mimes Of The Old West features a plastic toy cowboy. In keeping with the title cut, a photo of a mime adorns the inner liner notes with the caption "They've suffered long enough for their art. Now it's your turn." CD buyers may skip to Track 51 for an apocalyptic rockabilly hidden track "Atomic Power." Strangely, Track 51 is followed by 11 more tracks, each containing 9 seconds of silence. There's probably a joke in there somewhere . . .

Ashley Cleveland lends her vocals to "Who's Stopping You," one of the few attempts at a serious subject (rejection). For "I Saw The Light," the lyrics penned by Hank Williams Sr. years ago are unchanged, but This Train's delivery is more in a style you'd expect from The Kentucky Headhunters. Despite being instrumentals, "Seafoam Green" and "Hanger 84" are also quite humorous, the former having samples of people commenting on UFOs and the latter being a rapid beach music Duane Eddyesque kind of thing.

If you like cheese, purchase a ticket for This Train. They're sure to bring a smile. Remember: "No one got beat up more often than the mimes of the old west."
