Fitting firmly in the now familiar dc talk/Rebecca St. James established modern Christian rock genre is the self-titled Gotee Records debut project from Sonicflood. The group's name is appropriate as they vary tones considerably from light acoustic guitar ("The Heart Of Worship") to crunchy electric distortion ("Holy One") to smooth piano timbres ("I Need You") to sweeping strings ("Carried Away"). The production quality is extremely slick and radio friendly. Inspirational narration is included between some songs.

Lyrically, Sonicflood is completely worship oriented, beginning with "Invocation," a spoken prayer asking for Jesus' revealing to the listener. Song choruses are very repetitious, but the verses are more developed and less predictable. "The Heart Of Worship" addresses rediscovering a proper focus for music, while "Holy One" focuses on the lack of words available to describe God's awesomeness.

Kevin Max joins Sonicflood on their cover of the Gaither classic "Something About That Name" singing the second verse as a solo and chiming in for the rest of the arrangement. Wilshire and Lisa Kimmey-Bragg also make guest appearances on other tunes.

The informal discussion about the purpose for the album included at the end of track 12 gives listeners a behind the scenes glimpse at the heart of the band. They have a clear mission in mind: calling others to join in praise of and to God. They have managed to make this message clear while going the extra mile in terms of making music that is both compelling to the ear and non-static. Music purchasers seeking obviously worshipful lyrics with excellent production quality and a varying tonal palette will find favor with Sonicflood.
