The Gotee debut release from the The Katinas has been highly anticipated. With appearances at events over the past two years like Jubilate and on Rocketown Records' Exodus project in 1998, the question kept surfacing, "When are they coming out with their own album?" Well, it's here, and it was worth the wait.

Song energy levels vary substantially. "Takin' Me Higher" and "The Circle" are set to funky Motown grooves using guitar tones that sound like they're talking to you. Other tunes like "One More Time," "Mama," "Sing Me A Song" and "The Other Side" provide contrast with an epic "theme song from the movie soundtrack" type quality. "Nothin' But" features a rap section by Knowdaverbs. The album closes with a worship song "You Are God."

Utilizing several producers, The Katinas have generated a recording that is musically disjunct but vocally consistent. And what vocals! They have a blend from top to bottom that you don't get with groups like Avalon or 4 Him. The Katinas' harmony is similar to what was heard on the first Take 6 recording, but everything on this project is accompanied by full instrumentations. However, you CAN catch them on a CD called Kennedy Center Homecoming (Spring Hill) doing an a cappella version of "One More Time."

Lyrics are of the sort one would expect from standard pop fare for the most part. Vocal acrobatics and musical production value are the areas in which The Katinas shine, though. People who prefer groups like Boys II Men should enjoy The Katinas.
