Sunday Drive grew out of a progressive Southern Gospel group that went under the label Mullins and Co.. Former Gaither Vocal Band member Buddy Mullins still handles the lead vocal duties for the group. Who are Sunday Drive? They're a band, and they're a vocal group. The same group you'll see on stage made the music on the recording Doors Open Wide while making vocal harmony an integral part of the process. Not only that, band members had a hand in writing most of the tunes. That's refreshing.

Doors Open Wide kicks off with the title cut, a lyric about finding fulfillment in Christ. The tune's happy mid tempo feel sets the tone for most of the other tunes on the recording. The fourth track is more subdued than the others speaking of the gift of God's love. The call to unity that is "Be A Bridge" is more anthemic in nature. Their concluding cover of "Lamb Of God" is one of the best you'll hear of the Twila Paris classic.

Groups that blaze new trails in a polished, high quality manner are rarities. Sunday Drive aren't really blazing any new trails and as such, aren't a rarity. However, they are very good at the pop vocal style they've chosen, and it's obvious they are stretching themselves musically.
